Varna's
history goes back 2,500 years. It is now the 3d largest city in
Bulgaria. Its population is about 350,000. It lies on the coast of the
Black Sea. It is not only a large port but also an important industrial,
cultural and educational center. Varna is one of the largest centers in
shipping and shipbuilding, banking and textiles. The town is also a
significant tourist center with picturesque seaside resorts situated to
the south and the north. Many foreign tourists on account of their
beautiful scenery visit them. Varna is a center of education with its 5
universities, which attract young people from both Bulgaria and abroad.
Every year Varna is a host of the International music and ballet
festival, the International film festival, the festival of Bulgarian
film, the folklore and the choir festivals. The International Rally
“Golden sands” is also held here every year
