Scoala Generala Nr. 1

Rasinari, Sibiu (Romania)

The school in Rasinari - a wonderful shepherds' village 12 kilometres from Sibiu - has a wonderful scenery and wonderful friendly people.

The school was built in 1835 and the first teachers were Orthodox priests.  At first it had only five classrooms and in 1850 three more rooms were added. Today there are fifteen classrooms and here learn about 500 pupils from the first to the eighth grade, the first course and the second course.
Pupils go to school only in the morning.

Along years this school was a symbol of the Transylvanian culture. Here were born and learnt many important cultural Romanian personalities like the poet Octavian Goga and the philosopher Emil Cioran.

Therefore the name of the school is Octavian Goga.
