The famous Latvian painter Karlis Miesnieks comes from Jaunpiebalga, a nice and colourful village in Latvia.

         In 1918 he graduated from Shtiglic`s Technical Art School, Snt Peterburg and returned his native home.

         In 1920 the young decorator moved for work to Riga. In 1922 Mr Miesnieks became a draving teacher at the Latvian Academy of Arts. His artistic personality was closely connected with folk-art.In summer time he always came back to the country for his vocation. He also liked farming and gardening and he was everywhere -  in the woods and meadows, in the fields and gardens helping the farmers, therefore he knows the country – life and people very well. He has reflected that life and those people in his paintings. Karlis Miesnieks has painted portraits as well as landscapes and different subjects of the country –life. One of the famous pictures Daily Bread tells us about the Latvian peasants work and their routine in the 20-s. Bread, sour porridge and birch-sap are the symbols of Latvian`s country-life style, and he has succesfully used them in the picture to tell about Latvian`s and Latvia.
