Once there lived a family in a small cottage somewhere in
Siberia.. The family consisted of four members. Stepmother, her own daughter and
father with his daughter whose name was Nastasia. She was oppressed by her
stepmother and stepsister and she had to do all work at home.
Stepmother wanted to marry off her own daughter named Marfusha who was very lazy
and ugly. One day a mother and her son from nearby village came for courtship.
Stepmother hid Nastasia, but visitors wanted to see her, because they knew about
her. Stepmother smudged Nastasia and showed her to the visitors. Potencial
bridegroom said that she was very ugly. So visitors wanted to see what Marfusha
could cook. The bridegroom said that he liked goosey liver. Well, Marfusha had
to catch a goose in the pond. But she was very awkward and she could not catch
it. Everybody was laughing at her except Nastasia. She jumped into the water and
rescued Marfusha. The water washed Nastasia´s face and everybody could see that
she was a very pretty girl. The potencial bridegroom said: „I want Nastasia
being my wife!“
And that is the end of the story.
