The church with the belfry on the eastern
side, which was originally mentioned in 1447, has undergone and preserved, as
the typical representative of the "Carinthian type" of Romance churches, six
architectural construction, reconstruction and restoration phases.
The basis and the semicircular apse in presbytery of the today's church date
from the early-Romance period from the second half of 12th Century. The remains
of the early-middle-ages' church, old Slavic graves and the findings of
Kethletic cultural society date from the pre-Romance period i.e. from 9th to
10th Century.
The church with the recorded apse is exceptional and unique in continental
Slovenia and is, archeologically proved, the best preserved early-middle-ages'
church from the period of Christianization of the Alpine Slovenes in the former
Carinthian area, to which is historically belongs.
The monument is completely presented on the very spot.
