The old mine train will take you down the
3,5 km. long Glančnik tunnel into the heart of
the mine. Along the 1,5 km. long trail you will learn about mining methods and
mining gear from the very beginning about 335 years ago to the very recent days
of mining.
The displays and exhibits in the refurbished management building in front of the
mine entrance include: a collection of minerals, fossils and rocks from the mine
and surrounding area, photographs of flora and fauna from around Mežica
taken by Maks Kunc, a collection of mine surveying instruments and maps from the
first half of the 19th Century, a collection of old photographs from the life
and work of miners, and a miner's dwelling.
Deep under the earth surface, where the
dwarfs are said to enjoy in their dancing, started the centuries - long path of
hardship, deeply overwhelmed by blisters and impregnated by sweat of numerous
miners. Posing silently and motionlessly for a moment, you may be lucky enough
to experience, in the darkness of the shaft, the sight of the of a frightful
creature, the so called "bergmandelc" and you may hear the sounds of hammers and
picks of the lost souls of miners, etc.
This is where the underworld of Peca opens itself to the visitors.
