Lunch consists of two dishes - fresh soup made from vegetables, or meat soup and the main dish which can be flour meals, meat meals, or vegetable meals.
For the afternoon snack they eat fruit, or some light snacks, or sweet cakes.
Dinner is usually served between 18 and 19. Dinner is bitter similar to breakfast, or cooked, usually light and simple.

What influenced our meals?

Our national cuisine, as well as other national cuisine, was influenced by many elements. The first basic factor was the climate and geography of our country. Moderate climate with 4 seasons during one year, rainy spring and autumn, sunny summer and cold winter, meant cultivating resistent crops like potatoes and cereals. This also influenced breeding of lots of farmanimals like cows, sheeps  and pigs.
Territory of our country is mountainous and hilly except for lowlands in the south and east. Mountainous area had a pour soil so people had to cultivate not demanding crops. In the souther areas was the climate warmer and the soil was fertile so ther could be demanding crops cultivated.
Sovakia was poor and backward country without industry, so people didn`t have enough money to buy ingredients for meals.
They had to grow everything themselves. They had to work very hard to grow enough for their families. They were also underulled by hungarian masters, so they had to give a big part of their harvest to them. But the hungarians brought also good things to slovek cuisine like pepper, halaszle and goulash. Because of all this factors slovak people grew mostly potatoes, cereals and they used a lot of milk products like milk, butter, sheep cheese, cheese and also meat from their animals. Traditional slovak meals are very simple, mostly made with potatoes and flour, either salty or sweet. Todays cuisune is influenced by cuisines of surrounding countries and also new technologies in preparing meals.
