This is a scene from an ancient butchery. The butcher is holding a knife and cuts the beef in pieces while his assistant holds the other end of the meat. Underneath there is a big pot where the blood is gathered. In the background there are other pieces of meat which are hanging from the walls.   This is part of a detail of a bigger amphora which shows a boy holding a small animal, probably a rabbit.

The bottom part of this amphora shows a boy holding some kind of meat probably hens or rabbits and giving them to the other two women.   The ancient Greeks and Romans had also goats. They used to breed goats not for the meat but in particular for their wool and milk. They were eating the goat's meat only in sacrifices to the gods.

The hunting of boars was exclusively for the rich people. The royals were used to go in the woods and hunt boars, partridges, dears and jackrabbits. The majority of the people were eating pork instead.
