The
Dordogne constitutes an authentic soil which gives the walnuts their precious
identity.
The walnut trees are sensitive to cold so the orchards must be located in
valleys or on low hillsides.
The producers are aware of the difficulties of growing walnut trees. They often
have to face natural catastrophes such as the terrible storm in December 1999.
But they believe in their lucky star and will never give up.
Walnut orchards can be found in 578 “communes” (the smallest administrative
subdivisions in France) which cover 7004 hectares.
