Our département is situated at longitude 0°
3’ West and 1° 25’ East and at latitude 44° 35’ and 45° 42’ North.
So two major earth’s imaginary lines cross the Dordogne :
§ the Greenwich meridian, the reference to the universal time and starting
point of all the earth’s longitudes,
§ the 45th parallel, midway between tne North Pole and the Equator.
Geographically, the département of the Dordogne is situated west of the
European continent, south-west of France. Administratively, it is part of
the Aquitaine region, one of the 22 French regions since 1972. |
One Province, Four
Périgords

The
Dordogne is a quadrilateral which covers 116 km from east to west and
126 km from north to south. With 9220 sq.km, it is the third French
département by its size. Today its boundaries coincide roughly with
those of the Old Périgord.
Our département is a kind of mosaïc composed of several charming
natural landscapes. It is traditionnally divided into 4 areas:
