ŠUM PŠENICE   MURMOR OF WHEAT

Iz luga vjetar dune u doba gluho
I zelenu plahtu niz obronke zatalasa.
Lelujanje se začuje tako suho.
To šumi dolinama klas do klasa.

I moja skromna šačica zrnja.

The wind starts from the forest late
and begins to wave the green sheet down the slopes.
Spike by the spike
are rustling in the valleys.

Hardworking host listens through the open window
the murmur of the spikes and smiles.
It seems to him that he already hears
the grains falling into the barn.

My soul breathes the smell of wheat
and I listen to the murmur standing by the fence of thorns.
Oh, thank you, God, because in these spikes
my handful of grains waves too.

The poem is a description of landscape. He expresses strong feeling of a man who worked hard on the field listens the wind murmuring through wheat anticipating good harvest. The feeling of satisfaction and happiness is fostered by his being grateful to God. There is no other sound to disturb this joy and happiness. He is proud that he contributed to this waste green coverer by a small handful of grains, which he had sowed. His work was finally awarded.
