THE DINNER OF THE POR |
Jedno pred drugim stide se da sjednu
Za takav ručak
I dokle jedu boje se
Da ne bi jedno drugom život pojeli.
Kad ustanu od stola,
Tišina i težina
Gađenje pred samim sobom
Unakazi obadvoma lica
I svako misli da je drugom ubica
i da je krv što teče kroz njegovotijelo
Krv drugog
(kao da je jedno drugo jelo) |

They are ashamed of each other to sit at the table and eat such a lunch
And while they eat they are afraid, they might eat each other's life.
When they leave the table, there is nothing but silence and heavy load.
Feeling of disgust
Distorts the faces of both of them
And each of them thinks he is the murderer of the other one and blood
which flows through his body is the other's blood
(as if they ate each other) |
The poem belongs to social lyrics. The life the poor and
hungry people is unbearable, they are ashamed to have almost empty table. They
feel disgust and blame each other for their poverty, they alienate and stop any
kind of communication, and they are very close to become killers.
The worst thing is that they feel marked as if everything could be seen on their
faces, that they are alone and strangers to each other.

SIROMASI KOJI JEDU OD PODNE DO PODNE |
|
THE POOR WHO
EAT FROM NOON TO NOON |
Glad vuče podne bliže
I iz nutrine prazne tijelo tuži i cvili
Al podne stoji
Neumoljivo daleko
O ćuti jadno tijelo,
Zaboravi jelo
I jedi strpljenje
Da tijelo može barem izdahnuti!
U zadnji čas donese uvijek podne okrepljenje
I tijelo mora da trpi i stenje
Razapeto između dva podneva
O ćuti jadno tijelo,
Zaboravi jelo
I jedi strpljenje

Hunger brings noon closer
and the body squeaks
from its empty inside.
But noon stays mercilessly away
Oh be silent poor body,
forget about food
and eat patience!
If only the body could die! In the last moment
the noon brings food and the body
must suffer and moan
crucified between two noons
Oh be silent poor body,
forget about food
and eat patience!
|
Another poem from his cycle «The poor». Very depressive and
dark expression of poverty and hunger. People eat once a day. The time seems to
stop passing and the only thing left to man is patience. Death would be
something very human, it would release the body from suffering, an it is only
the body, which suffers from hunger, and his mind is above it.

NAPITNICA |
|
THE TOAST |
Mi smo siti. Mi smo siti!
A za druge nek se stara
Onaj tko ih stvara!
Sad hajdemo pitit, piti!
Plod sve tuđe muke
Dolazi u naše ruke!
Opijmo se, opijmo se!
Za bol drugih nijemi,
Za krik drugih gluhi!
I bez as se Zemlja vrti!
Tko se muči i tko trpi
Sam će naći mir u smrti!
Pijmo! |

We are fed and for the others
should care those
who gives them birth.
Let's go drink now,
and the result of someone
else's effort will come to our hands.
Let's get drunk and be silent for the other
people's pains, and deaf
for other people's screams.
The Earth keeps on revolving even without us.
Those who suffer pains
will find peace in death by themselves.
Let's drink. |
The rich don’t care about the poor people's sufferings, only
death can help them and bring them peace and it will come anyway. The Earth
keeps on revolving, so there is no need to change anything. The best thing to do
is to enjoy and not care about other people.
