He was born in 1928 in Gola where he finished elementary
school. He started painting in 1954 and first instructions about paintings
he got from his brother Ivan. He is one of the rare whose works didn't
change greatly from the very first and rarely faund works, up to the present
moment.. his silent existence created certainly unique and recognizable
painter's world, which gave him a stable position among other authors of the
Hlebine School. Specific and unique characteristic of his work is present in
very clear colours and harmoniuous atmosphere. Stjepan Večernaj peacefully
records eveeryday life of the Podravina region. |
