He is very close by his ideas to Vlaho Bukovac. He was the author of many religious and historical compositions, portraits and landscapes. The palette of his colours is darker and deeper, and the expression is directed to stressing the essential of the spiritual life of his characters. After 1907 he left Zagreb and came back to live on Pelješac where he changed style; he turned to still natures and sea landscapes.
