He was born in Hlebine in 1935. his first works in oil date from 1950. He appeared in public for the first time in Križevci in 1954, and he had his first independant exhibition in Koprivnica in1959. He move to Zagreb in 1960 where he worked as a school teacher. He had over thousand exhibitions and was awarded numerous prizes. He also made a few scenary for the Zagreb theatres, illustrated many books for children and made about thirty tapestries of which the most famous one is «The Grapes Picking».
He was enlisted among the top naive painters by the critics, and he is the one of the greatest representatives of the Hlebine School i the world.
His work is devided into four parts; the Hlebine verism, the flower perod, portraits of famous people and the black period.
